Why The Personal Touch Matters and 3 Tips for Maintaining It

You’ve put in the hard yards. You had an idea and you spent hours upon hours thinking about it. You then brought that idea, developed it into a concept, launched a business from it and you’re now at a point where you need to partner with a 3PL to facilitate growth but you are worried that they mightn’t offer the same personal touch.

Be under no illusion, that personal touch should be a non-negotiable for your business. A little thank you note, or a small chocolate surprise, or even a personalised box, whatever it may be, it’s extremely important because it sets you apart from the competition and not only shows your customers that you care, but that you appreciate them purchasing your product.

As your business grows, it can be very easy to stray from focusing on the smaller details, and this can particularly be the case when the 3PL that you partner with only wants to focus on volume and isn’t interested as much in helping you with the small touches.

The good news is that it can be very easy to maintain that personal touch and ensure that it isn’t sacrificed as your scale.

Define That Personal Touch

You need to define what exactly that personal touch piece is. Have a think about what’s that little bit extra that you can do to delight your customers and get them talking about your brand. It doesn’t have to be cost much, except some extra thought.

Partner with a 3PL that Cares

3PL businesses are built on volume, and when they reach a certain size they will no longer have interest in the customisations for your smaller brand as they want the quick and easy product that they can dispatch seamlessly. That’s why finding a 3PL that will care as much for your brand as you do can be like finding a diamond in the rough. Do your research, and partner with a 3PL that will go that extra mile.

Seek Feedback

Close that feedback loop. Ask your customers what they like most about your brand and what they appreciate. Understanding how those little personal touches are landing with your customers will allow you to either modify them, or even add to them and generate more loyalty.

At Orchard Distribution we pride ourselves in being able to cater for and allow those customisations, because we understand what exactly is required to build a brand and sustain it. That personal touch is a non-negotiable for us, and it should be for you too.
